Miljöhjältarna (Eco Heroes) 2D Game

Background:

We developed an application that presents real climate data in an educational and engaging way, aiming to influence a specific target audience. The assignment offered two possible scenarios: middle school students or retired office workers.

Scenario:

We targeted middle school students aged 13–15 in Swedish compulsory school. Our goal was to support climate-change education with a digital solution that blends learning with visual engagement. We based the design on the assumption that these students had some prior instruction on the topic, although their interest and knowledge varied.

Idea:

We created a 2D game that helps students understand how everyday choices, both at home and in their local environment, affect the climate. The game shows how young people can contribute to a more sustainable future through small actions in daily life.

Design prototype

As the graphic designer, I defined the conceptual and visual framework of the project, developed wireframes, and established the color palette, graphic system, and character design. The early ideation sketches and low-fidelity wireframes was created in Canva, to explore visual direction efficiently. The refined high-fidelity prototype was created in Figma.

I designed a coherent visual logic where interface components and character elements interact intuitively to guide user perception and behavior. I prioritized accessibility and cognitive ease through deliberate hierarchy, spacing, and contrast, tailored to the users’ age and digital literacy. Through intentional composition and visual storytelling, I shaped an interface that balances pedagogical clarity with emotional resonance.

Key Insights From the Project

This project strengthened my ability to translate pedagogical goals into a coherent visual system, while balancing creative ambition with practical constraints.
Working across both traditional design methods and AI-assisted tools deepened my understanding of how different technologies can complement each other in a production workflow.
I learned how to iterate efficiently under time pressure, maintain visual consistency across AI-generated assets, and use prompt optimization as a strategic design intervention rather than a shortcut.
The process also highlighted the value of grounding aesthetic decisions in user insights, accessibility considerations, and clear interaction logic.
Overall, the work reinforced my capability to navigate complex design contexts, where conceptual thinking, tool proficiency, and critical problem-solving intersect to support meaningful user experiences.
